Who Am I?

My name is Alvin, and I’m a rising senior at Pomfret School, a boarding school in Pomfret, Connecticut.

Though I was born in Las Vegas, I grew up in Daegu, South Korea, which has shaped both my perspective and interests. I'm especially passionate about politics, sociology, economics, and American history.

Sports also play a big role in my life—I ski in the winter, golf in the summer. Outside of academics and athletics, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, watching movies, working out, and playing video games.

Project
Overview

As an avid sports fan, I was frustrated when I couldn’t secure tickets to a game due to rampant ticket scalping. This experience inspired me to launch a business project aimed at reducing the impact of scalpers and promoting fairer access to events.

In the process, I developed a broader interest in policies that promote equity and accessibility. This interest eventually led me to an in-depth exploration of access-oriented policies, where I came across the South Korean housing crisis. I began researching the country's rental housing policies and uncovered both their intentions and the controversies they’ve sparked.

This project presents an overview of those policies, shares findings from my research, and analyzes survey and interview responses to better understand how different demographics perceive the issue. It concludes with proposed solutions aimed at improving equitable access to housing in South Korea.
